I would recommend you change the O2 sensor. Fixed a similar problem for me. They are well known to wear out. Some people change them as service items!! (yeah, that's going a bit far).
Order a bosch one from www.lambdasensor.com.
To get the right one, search Scoobynet threads and you'll get the part number. You also need to check how many wires yours has (probably 3). It's the zirconia type you need. Probably cost you about 70 quid.
I can't promise it'll fix the problem, but I'd have changed that before changing the MAF.

AFR gauge shows what the Lambda sensor sees, so unless you have a really sick engine / fuel problem, then the Lambda sensor seems to be failing to show really lean mixtures, or else you have an air ( in ) leak post MAF - check the pipe into turbo.
Check ALL hoses are tightly fixed, as the Idlea Air hose ( or sticky idle air control solenoid valve on the inlet manifold sticking) can cause poor idle problems
The symptoms could sound like MAF failure but you have tried the unplug test and more or less eliminates that.
What sort of guarantee / warranty did you get with the car? If any, use it before spending your money to fix old problems!!
