Default STI parts on other imprezas.....

looking at another uk turbo, the guy has owned it 2 mths, he took in part ex for his evo but says fuel economy is too bad, it does have a dump valve, possible reason for bad economy, how easy is it to put the standard re-circ stuff on, oo, i sound like i knwo what im on about LOL, anyhoo, he says the previous owner, his mate, hmm, had a mate hwo owned an sti who writ it off, so this guy put some sti parts on this one, strut brace amongst some he can see, but he said it has the rear diff of an sti, how will this make the car, better, worse, good idea etc ??????

other points, the guy removed the air bag module to fit his dvd player in centre dash, the lite is on, naturally, but he said the guy put the module back in to prove lite went off, the current owner hasnt put it back in as he doesnt want to mess it up/**** it up anyhow ?!?!

hmmm maybe ?!?!?

no work done to engine, history wise, no gearbox rebuilt/no engine rebuilds, it has 120k,it has had an excedia <sp> race clutch put on about month ago.

it has an internal boost controller,555 No/plate,

i hate buying these cars, so much to look into !!!!!!!!!!

to try and help you........

it looks like a few sti body parts. to get rid of the dump valve you would need to block off the piping its been cut into. as for that affecting the fuel consumption - how??

an uprated diff will always help handling but it sounds weird to replace rear only? has he had to replace rear beam?

do you have a mate who knows scoobys inside and out?

to have owned an sti.....crashed it....swapped bits onto uk turbo and then fitted a boost controller. sounds very boy racerish/chav to me.

some1 said u cannot fit rear sti diff unless the front is done too, this involves, removing gearbox too, also the sti diff has different ratio confused, think i`ll give it a miss :-(

Different ratios between JDM & UK models so if the rear was swapped then front or the whole gearbox would need to be changed.

The STi engine internals and heads are much better than the UK model so it might be worth tracking down what was changed.

It's very easy to say "Yeah I've added a whole load of STi bits" but alot harder to verify that this has happened.

I would advise you find somebody who really know imprezas to take a look.

your differentials help get the power down to both wheels......hence 4 wheel drive cars have 2

the main power has to be split for both off side and near side and from a prop to both sides. standard diffs tend to struggle with big power and not send equal revs through each wheel. hence squeeling, smoke etc from one side under heavy cornering.

uprated diffs help to equalise this. tuned front wheel drive cars tend to play with diffs a lot as well as final gear ratios.

so to replace only a rear diff sounds very suspicious and would make the car very weird/twitchy to drive i would imagine. my knowledge on the internals for scoobys is non existent as far as details go im just giving you a rough idea for what would cause you trouble.

if its that cheap id pay and get an aa check if your not sure

3!

Sounds like a car you don't want to buy unless it's as cheap as davey dickinson's tan. You can get a nice high grade STI v3 fresh import for around the 6k mark, so why bother with a uk dog?

hmm, think i`ll give it a miss, if i have to ask is it iffy then hmm, sod it !!

i did find it strange how he said the guy refitted the module and the lite went off, but left it unconnected cause he didn twant to mess it up by fitting it, all it is is on a mounting plate and a connector, well, the my00 is,on my sport, its just at the bottom of the centre console, where the gear gaitor trim ends.
now i know what people are on about thwne they say they saw 5 scoobs and 5 were duffers !!,even tho i ahevtn seen it, dont want to waste £20 fuel and a few hrs if by description it sounds iffy, and he has only had it 2 mths, from an evo to that and its too juicy

£4500 its up for, he`d take £4100 without stereo system

cheers all.......

I'd be tempted to either buy one off scoobynet (non newbie) because you can track the car's history on here, or buy one from someone like API

We have a silver 4 door import WRX at 4 grand. It's not on our website. It has a decent spec, mostly standard, and will come with a limited warranty. Nice enough car and we've replaced the head gaskets as we were a bit worried about the way it ran.

If I can help, call me on Tuesday. proper dealer facilities from APi. AA inspections are welcome too.

Good luck in your search.

sounds lovely, but i would prefer a uk turbo,i want to use super unleaded, not optimax or octane booster all the time, also, its the mileage thing, they always seem to have 40k, hmm, on a 13 yr old car, why do uk ones have 120k, thought japan was bigger LOL !!

i`d get a wrx import and it will of been clocked/ragged and ready to die, knowing my luck !!

cheers......

The JDM get used less and the majority come with a service hx. Reset the ECU and it should learn to run with UL but with a lower BHP.

Given the choice between Uk & JDm I know which I'd choose. Loose the UK dealer mentality

Buy from somebody sensible if you worried by the risks

I'd ring a few sensible people i.e. API

true, maybe im being "snobbish" for wanting a uk turbo, but it strikes me as odd, thta, when asked if a couple of uk turbos are o.k, i get, no,no,no as it has a few mods, turbo timers, boost controllers or say, d/v, yet ALL imports seem to have so many mods its crazy !!

i dont mind body mods, but want a standard lump, which is hard to find !!

Hi spend the time to look for a JDM much better than the uk versions check this website out it is a dealer up here who has been importing jap cars for nearly 20 years I think they show you good the bad and spec of jap imports.

Nope not true, you need to look harder.

I imported mine a couple of years ago, took a massive risk by cabling the money to a company I'd not even spoke to on the phone and mine was top draw.

Loads of UK companies have good quality cars for sale or I as I said earlier look on here
