Question Low boost on a MY99 Turbo - Help?

I recently noticed my boost has dropped down to 0.7bar. It doesnt over boost at all, it just goes straight up to 0.7 then sits there.

I've cleaned the boost soleniod, checked for leaks and switched back to the original dump valve all of which did nothing to solve the problem.

I'm pretty sure my MAF's the cause of it but just wanted to know if there is anything else it could be before i bite the bullet and buy a new MAF.

Hi Craig

I am just down the road in Bury, if you want to borrow a maf to test out with, i have a spare for a MY99.

Have you re-set the ecu? the weather is getting warmer now as well, but it should be reaching at least 0.8 Bar

My MY98 has the same problem. Until I open my manual boost controller a bit, then I can tweak it up to 1.1 bar.

I've never managed to find out what's causing it.

Any ideas anyone?

Yeah,

Forgot to mention i rest the ECU.

I used to get around 1 bar overboost then it dropped back to around 0.8 bar and held.

I was thinking the weather could be an issue too, but it seemed to happen over night.

About a week back i got a missfire then straight after that the knocklink lit up an extra couple of lights (only the green ones) so i let off and took it easy. Then after about a mile drive i went to plant my right foot to check everything was ok and my car was in return to home mode (only geting about 0.5 and very noticably slower). This is what makes me think my MAF's definatly on its way out.

The day after the car was fine though but my boost pressure has continually dropped to the point its at now.

Sounds like your car has gone into limpmode 0.5 bar boost to protect the engine until you find whats wrong and correct it

could be a knackered MAF sensor

Hi Heple

Send me a Pm if you want to pop down, and i can give you my contact details,

Normally the MAF will cause uneven idle aswell when the ECU has been re-set.

It did to start with but its even'd off now and is idling correctly.

Think i'm just going to get a new one anyway just to be safe.

Your not by any chance going to scooby shootout are you?

Could bring it with you if you are.

No have other arrangements, remember drive off boost until it's fixed.£70.00 is cheap compared to an engine re-build

I had a very similar problem with my MY99 - only thing that cured it was a manual boost controller, now running just over 1.1 bar.

I had already changed my MAF sensor and it made no difference.

Let me know how you go on Craig,

Gary

Hey guys, just seen this thread whilst searching for my problem. With mine, it's perfectly ok 95% of the time. On the odd occasion the boost will just drop from the usual 15/16 PSI straight down to 7/8 PSI. This doesn't last long, a couple of times only for a few seconds. Another time it lasted for about half an hour with no boost! Does anyone know what this would be caused by? I don't want to just throw money at it and not fix it, so any sure answers would be much appreciated. The last thing I want it to kill my gorgeous scoob.

Thanks in advance,

Chad!
