Question 60 second Brands Hatch lap

Anyone done sub 60 second lap at Brands ?

If so what does it take, ie spec of car, suspension, brakes and power ?

I can't change me but I need to find out what car I'll need to give me a chance. I don't pretend to be anything other than an average driver, but I can and will mod the car.

A couple of friends of mine and I are in a bit of a challenge. One guy has done 1min 2seconds on his bike - he now has a Ducatti which would get him under the 60sec barrier, so I need to get my skates on.

I have 1997 UK car, which before the attempt will have :-
300 - 320bhp
Grooved front discs with Ferodo racing pads
Braided brake hoses
Standard 2 pots
Dot 5.1 brake fluid
24mm rear anti roll bar
22mm front anti roll bar
Standard size 16" Toyo Proxes

Will this give me a chance or am I dreaming

Thanks

i think a friend of mine in his Clio trophy gets close.....if not under 60...

id suggest its not about what power of car but how much ***** youve got to push it really.

Yeah OK, but you could have the biggest ***** in history, but even if your called McCrea, you couldn't get a 850cc Mini round there in 60 seconds.

I just wanted an idea of what car would give you a chance of that lap time.

I filmed someone at the SIDC trackday back in Feb going round in about a minute, not sure who but he was in a blue bug eye (I think). He got my attention by making the most tyre squeals! Also I've seen a vid of a Caterham doing it in 55 secs.

no no, what i mean is that chances are it wont take extra grunt to get you round but a nicely balanced car, do you have any suspension upgrades other than the roll bars?

No to any other suspension upgrades - I could look into the anti lift kit, but I can't afford a completely different set up :-(

do you have aftermarket springs?

TBH you may be surprised at how well the car goes anyway with what youve got. Give it a shot, see how quick you are (unofficial timing of course )

This is for pride

I'm up against a Ducatti and a brand new WRX with goodness knows what mods - BIG brakes - suspention & ECUTEK.

I have the cheapest machine and really can not afford to stack it, I just wanted to know if I was even in the right ball park, I think I am so now I need to get a bit of practice in.

I know an ex racing driver, so I think some coaching for a few bottles of wine may be on the cards don't tell anyone, but we all know this is the best modification you can do anyway.

if this was stickered it would most likely be ROBROY... had been doing brands for a fair few years. would be interested to know how the spec'c' was doing (unofficially of course ) might see if i can get an idea of time on the GP circuit 2moro....

For brands, the power isnt so important its really about suspension set up and brakes and most of all tyres which will make the biggest difference of all. I managed a 59 sec lap on road tyres and a 52.5 on race tyres in my britcar spec crx. steve
