Is there any advantage to doing this (i.e. is the P1 mapped for 97/98, where the STI ecu may be mapped for 100), Or are they infact identical maps?
thanks

They are identical maps by all accounts, but the P1 has a little bit extra knock correction.
So you wont really gain anything.

If it did plug it would need remapped at the very least. Better off getting a 2nd-hand UK ECU and remapping it directly.

A P1 or Type R has an 8000rpm rev limit, higher than that of the uk turbo. Also, the turbo and injectors are different. There's no real point in changing your ecu when it can be remapped exactly to your car's spec.

There is no performance benefit, the P1 code is set more sensitive wrt knock retard, otherwise all maps are the same.
It won't work in a UK car without wiring changes and then it would be far too aggressive.
The Uk PPP ecu is not an STi ecu, see above comment.
Safety ... as stated knock retard sensitivity would be better but you still need to use Optimax as a minimum, 97 ron fuel is not really good enough.
