Default Problem with my 94sti

Hi all iv got a problem witn my my94 version 1 sti, when i come on boost the car seems to hesitate a bit, and feel sluggish if i keep my foot down and let the revs increase by about 1000-2000rpm it picks up but still does not feel right, not as quick or snappy as it did, as if it was not hitting full boost, my boost gauges are both giving me readings saying i am hitting my normal full boost level, the car otherwise runs perfect no tick over probs no cel light or anything, i have though noticed my actuater needs replacing as i can open and close the wastegate by moving the actuator rod by hand, but if it was the actuator causing the problem i wouldn`t of thought id be reading my correct boost levels, would i be right in saying this?
(my boost gauges are fed from the nipple on top of the inlet manifold so would it be reading boost level as it entered the manifold after the actuator has done what its got to do?)

Could it be the actuator ?

Any help will be much appriciated cheers.

Sounds like it could be your coils mate. They have a habit of cracking on the early stis. The slightest crack on one means they are gubbed, think they are about 50bucks each to replace. Of course it may be your plugs, when was the last time they were changed?

If the actuator is shafted and the wastegate is staying closed the turbo may be over boosting, I'm no expert on the boost control on the Impreza but I'm told on a standard ecu the fuel is cut to prevent horrible things from happening after 1.25 bar, you'ed probably be seeing those kind of boost levels at 5k with the wastegate stuck shut.

Only had the car about a year mate so i havn`t changed the plugs,i have a receipt that i got with the history when i bought it that says the plugs were changed about 2 months before i got it, id say at a guess its been around 13-14 months since they were changed, how long do they last/how often is it advisable renew them? thanks for the replie as well mate.
