Whereabouts are you? I got a full rebuild for much less than that, by a very reputable company!!!

Sounds like the garage must have very large windows.....and therefore seen you coming!

The prices you've mentioned are astronomical. From my own bitter experience, I would suggest you go down the rebuild route, as it will essentially be a new engine and you will have no worries about reliability providing you run it in and look after it. I would avoid a second hand engine as there is no real peace of mind that it's not about to happen again. For a start second hand engines often come from crashed cars, if the car was rolled and the engine ran while it was on its roof - the bearings will already be on their way out. You also have no idea if the engine was looked after by the previous owner or if it has been run low on oil in the past.

I suggest you contact Andy at Special Scooby's on 01206 760074 for a more realistic idea of what the costs will be. He did the rebuild on mine - and I'm a happy customer.

You might want to ring API Engines to see if they can sort you out. Quite well respected around these parts
