Default remap wrx ppp or not

i have a 2004 wrx ppp and was considering a ecutek remap at awd in perth but is it worth it and will it retain the ppp boost control and safety features etc, it boosts at 1.1 bar at the mo after getting it dynoed at 231 hp

Figures sound a bit out for an 04 PPP - lowish boost & power.
What petrol are you using?
Perhaps spend some time finding out if there is a problem before loading on more power.

Is it backing off when under load due to ambient temps etc?
Prodrive build this into the ECU. Mine did before I had a Ecutek on my old WRX. Only had 208BHP at Powerstation before the map.

05 wrx ECUTEK =276/266 and very happy..!

It seems there are a LOT of PPP cars making considerably less than quoted, even taking into account dyno variables..!

Is he quoting at wheel figures maybe ?

WRX should be 225 at flywheel, plus 40 approx for PPP ?

That's right isn't it ?

He won't be getting 231 at the wheels from PPP

231 is low though, however there have been a number of posts recently where people are getting a poor return for their outlay (assuming it wasn't free).

ECUTEK is the way to go, however not if you want to retain your warranty.

Edit: p.s. ECUTEK will probably get you 1.2 to 1.25 bar boost, that seems to be the norm by most mappers. Some cars also need a 3 port solenoid fitted (mine didn't) and others just need the actuator modified (mine did).

Are there any concerns about reducing engine life by doing these mods ?

(The extra bhp sounds good !)

Not if it's done properly and the mapping is kept within safe limits for the engine.

My WRX 300 was spot on at PowerStation with 265.

And Trap's car runs really well after the remap as does MSP1's and Blue's previous car.

Go for it if the Warranty is not an issue.

Question: How would your normal Subaru Garage tell if it had been remapped? After some of the things you hear them missing I'm sure they wold miss this.

Will check the piggy bank !

One thing. Let's say that a 2001 WRX which pushes out 218bhp on unleaded can manage about 230bhp on Optimax (Top Gear got 14bhp with an STi).

Does this mean putting a Revolution decat centre pipe and backbox, then an Ecutek3 will only give another 35bhp ? Is that noticeable and is this about the best bang for your buck available for £1000 ?

Cheers !
