Default Pick up mine this weekend, questions...

Off to pick up my first Scoob (MY97 on a P, Turbo 2000) this weekend. First thing i want to do is change the plugs, oil filter and oil, any recommendations for preferred brands? Also to my knowledge the MAF hasn't been replaced, is it worth replacing as a matter course or leave it as it?

Thanks

Find out from the previous owner when it was last serviced. The MAF's of MY97/98 cars is a lot stronger than the MY99/00 types. They also cost £200 instead of £80! If running ok with no idle problems, don't bother changing it.

If the previous owner can't say when it was last serviced then just get ALL the fluids, filters and plugs changed. Should cost around £250 from a good 'Non-Subaru' Garage!
Also, check when the cambelt was last done.

To be honest, all this should have checked before you agreed to buy it, then you could have negotiated the price down a bit more!

Thanks for the reply.

No idle problems, it's running very sweet. I know the filter and oil were done only a few months ago but wanted to go on the side of caution and do them again. Bought some Mobil 1 (2 x 4l) and was thinking of some NGK laser platium premium plugs as well.

Think if i'd tried to negotiated a cheaper price i'd of needed a bag of swag, ski mask and a strippy jumper as i think i got it for a steal anyway .

Good stuff. Just make sure the oil is 15w50 grade and not 0w40 as this is too thin. As for plugs, if the engine is standard, PFR6B's are the standard items. If modified, use PFR7B's.

Crumbs the oil is 0w40 . The car is modded so will head the PFR7B route, thanks again.

The preferred grades for the Impreza turbo are 10w40, 10w50, 15w50, 10w60.

I'll take the oil back and get something more appropriate, thanks. Think I’m going to my to buy an owners manual as I only got the service book with the car.
