Default Loss of boost ?

How is loss of boost noticed, is it like, blatant if you are leaking some boost, say from the turbo to the intercooler ?

reason i ask, i had to use some silicone hosing as m,y intercooler connector broke, the bit that goes round the turbo, wasnt gonna pay £156 for a new one so used the silicone hosing and jubilee clips, its not going anywhere, but i noticed a slight kink in where the jubilee clip has squashed the last bit of silicone hosing.

im running normal at idle, not to too pie hot on boost etc, at idle its at 500, with engine off its at 0, when i floor it it goes to 0.9 sometime slightly over but then back, its hard to watch it and drive !!

so, is boost loss very noticeable or could it leak and me not know ?

cheers.....................

A bolt somehow came out of the the pipe that fits directly under the intercooler once and you could definitely hear the leaking boost then, aswell as the obvious not acheiving boost

What car?
Going "over but then back" isn't what happens when you leak boost (I had a leaking intercooler pipe on my 95 WRX - the boost just got lower and lower...) If you are airtight on the pipe it should be ok.

its an my95, i presume its air tight, the clips are bloody tight and the silicone pipe is on there, but thought id just ask, if boost was leaking, is it blatant or not noticeable that much, i m ean little leak, not the enitre pipe off LOL

Do you get a loud whooshing under boost? I had EXACTLY the same thing that happened to HARTY2000, bolt fell out the intercooler. You could hear the leak under boost. The ECU will compensate for low boost (I believe) up to a certain point. If your boost is fluctuating, I'd guess it would be a metering problem like MAF, Lamda or even the boost control solenoid.
To be honest mate, it sounds like it's perfectly normal. 0.9 bar is right for that turbo/ ecu combination, and occasionally going over is to be expected (especially in cooler weather).
