CAM BELT CHANGE

CAM BELT CHANGE
i have just bought an impreza estate on a 93 with 79000 kilometers on it and was gunna change the cam belt for peace at mind, but want to know if i can just change the belt and not the tensioners or is it wise to change both?

I would personally changed the tensioner to be on the safe side. They aren't cheap, but it's a lot cheaper than mending a broken engine.
IIRC your phase 1 tensioner is circa £110.

That's correct yes.
Although you may find you need to replace a couple of the pulleys elsewhere round the belt, but i can't help you with that, as i've not yet came across that yet. The bearings inside them get noisey or something.

You can wait till you stripped it all down and see how it looks. If it's not leaking and still has a lot of pressure when(slowly) pushing the piston in with a vice, then it should be re-useable, but i would change it for reassurance.
It's worth doing it right, first time.

Tensioner adjuster and belt tensioner is one and the same thing.
But yet, change the belt and the tensioner. Somewhere like Roger Clarck Motorsport will supply the stuff quick style.
