Hi everyone,
Just got new scoob, uk car W reg 2000 with 55,000 miles.
Absolutely love it.
I want to now start tuning the car and am looking for about 300bhp or maybe a bit less. How would i go about this?.
I still want the car to be reliable as i use it every day.
The only mods it has at the mo are a Magnex backbox.
I live in South Yorkshire and was thinking of using scooby clinic.
Please can someone help me with this?.

speak to adam about it, shoud think he'll recomend full decat, maybe a uprated turbo and a remap and that should do it, you might need to add a front mount to make sure inlet temps arn't too high

will have a td04, which is a bit restricting, it has known to produce over 300 (but only by 3bhp) but only on the very odd ocasion and is when its being pushed to its limit, prob worth changing it to a faster spooling turbo, maybe a vf34 (off a newage sti).
the combination of that turbo decat and remap will see 300, but def worth adding the front mount adn possibly an uprated oilcooler to keep temps down.

Problem is in most cases using a bigger turbo will give more lag - and that lovely low end surge of the TD-04 will be lost. best to go for about 280 ish with these mods Full Decat, Filter (Green) Uprated fuel pump, Ditched resonator box replaced with air suction pipe. and then a remap, you could also do your headers which can be restrictive, this should see about 275-285 ish depending on whos rollers you believe (PS are meant to be accurate)
this will make for a quick (ish) road car the only thing is with it being a TD-04 Turbo it will run out of puff at top end, and is pointless revving passed 5500 rpm.
Also once you change your turbo you will run more power which will come in with more of a bang, and thus put strain on your gearbox which i am led to believe can not take much more than 320bhp 320lbs torque.
Some people are lucky but its not of a case of if but when.
i had a remap and within 3 months i had to have a gearbox rebuild!!! another reason not to go power daft

have to say i've heard 320-350 being the limit on not only gearbox but also internals in the standard uk form
also the v34 seems to be a relativly cheap turbo, i was looing at possibly going down the vf35 route, wich have been told has a very fast spool up rate, however you can pick up a old (but in good condition) vf34 for as little as £250 where as a vf35 is about £800 ish

decat and remap will be approx £500 ish for decat then approx £900 for map, people will say you can get it cheaper yada yada yada but as soon as you add everything together it will be around that approx £1400.
final output will vary, cars have been known to max out at 245bhp then others 300 (admitedly with a front mount as well which is another £700, after fitting etc, and thats fairly rare)
will prob be around 260bhp 260ftlb, but varies with all cars, mine for eg runs 258bhp but 280ftlb, pops bangs and spits flames out al over
.
mine was mapped at scooby clinic and has one of there magnex downpipe in and a custom made centre section back box (was on car when i got it) and then mapped by pat herborn, and i absolutley love it

Everyone wants 300bhp lol
Here's how I got it
https://www.scoobynet.com/api-and-br....html?t=527345
TBH the notion that a larger turbo (of the size of a VF34/VF35) means significantly more lag is a bit misleading. My VF 35 is pretty much as good as my old TD04 in terms of lag, it may spool slightly later in the rev range in the lower gears (as evidenced by the onset of the surge, but that relates to the boost threshold rather than lag), but the seat of the pants dyno and the power graph shows you that, for example, at 3k rpm my car now produces more torque than with TD04 at its peak from then it wins hands down!

Max I ever got from my TD04 with a host of mods was 296 on my UK97. TD05FE saw that rise to 320bhp with same mods plus remap of Apexi ecu (standard 380 injectors and TMIC). Ran it like this for twelve months with no internal or gearbox issues and as a far as I know its still running fine 2 years on.....................
