Failed stereo install attempt. Now WRX wont start.
Hi Guys. Major issue with my WRX. My new sound system install was going like a dream until I pulled the stardard stereo out and cut the factory connector off. I think something has tripped out. Everytime I open the door the alarm goes off, I cannot use my remote to lock or unlock, or disengage the alarm. The car is useless now, wont even start. Ive got a Impreza 06 WRX... anyone had this issue? Can anyone advise me on what to do?

It might have a loop to the alarm to prevent theft. Try patching the connector back on and check fuses.
The traditional way of fitting new stereo now is to use a wiring adapter which converts the factory loom to Iso plug. Cost is about £15 from Halfords or on line.

why cut the plug off...... 9/10 times i have changed stereos in the last 4 cars they all just plug straight in... the only time it didn;'t i bought the connector and plugged it straight in....

i used to work installing stereo's years ago when i worked for a performance car company. The worst thing anyone can do is chop the original block of the wiring harness. It will actually end up costing you a lot more money. All you need is a wiring harness from halfords and you can change a stereo in well under 15 mins. By cutting it you just cause problems and make the whole install untidy. If you want bare wires just buy an iso connector.. connect it to the car and cut the stereo end of it (although i can't see why you would want to).
I would follow the advice on here or alternatively wire in a standars iso block and see if it cures the problem.

Woo hooo!!! Got it working. Blowen Cloak Room 20A fuse was causing all my problems... Replaced and its all good. Figured out I had removed the positive battery terminal, but moved it not far enough away, must have been slightley touching when I went for the wire cut. Thanks again for your reply posts.

Make sure when you take your leads off the positive terminal, you move them a safe distance away before cutting off a factory connector. I realised mine had jumped back across and was resting against the battery terminal... but it was too late, already snipped it off. Lucky it was only a blowen fuse.
