Default Fuel Leak !

Guys,

A very strange one for you, I have been scrabbling about in my boot today sorting speakers and things out. I discovered a screw in the metal floor
right in between the two metal plates these are screwed to the floor as well, if you pull the back seats down it's right on the floor in front of you, i decided to unscrew this as it didnt look like it was meant to be there, the problem is having driven the car there is a very strong smell of petrol, having investigated further it's coming from where the screw was !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This cannot be good ! Im assuming some F***wit has screwed this into the petrol tank at some point ?
Do you think it would be o.k to screw it back in and epoxy all around it ?
Any other ideas greatly appreciated !
Only had the bloody scooby 3 weeks !

Regards
James

That is unusual. Can't think what was going through somebodys head when they did that. Earthing lead perhaps?
Anyway my guess it would be fine to replace the screw. Either seal it or use a fibre type washer.

The only propper way of doing it is to take the tank out and sort the hole with it out. Yes the screw with washer will stop it from getting into the car, but wont help as much stopping it going all over the floor when cornering etc

DON'T JUST SEAL THE SCREW!!!

I'm having the exact same problem mate, when my scoob was imported thenumpty who fitted the tracker drilled straight into my fuel tank Whenever i fill it up now fuel pisses out the screw and stinks. It's going back to Litchfields to get the problem rectified. Very very dangerous!!!

But dont just seal the screw as the petrol will eventually melt the sealant and your back to square one. I'm afraid it's a tank out job and will probably need replacing, mine is

you can get sealant that isnt affected by petrol. Also you used to be able to buy repair kits from places like halfords that were like bicycle patches and you literally just stuck it over the hole.
