Help for a new guy
Hi there just bought myself an STi RA with a nackered bottom end for not too silly money and had a few questions.
1. Is there any reason why the crank can't be re-ground and over-sized shells used?
2. Is there any point in putting in a set of uprated rod-bolts (ARP etc) whilst i'm rebuilding. Bearing in mind I will only run standard power/rev limit.
3. Can anyone give me details on the spec of the STi engine? I've been led to believe the spec can vary, depending wether what day the engine was built.. And is there any way to distinguish between components.
4. Do all the heads have solid lifters?
5. Will be looking for 350+ BHP in the distant future, what sort of spec should this sort of engine be built to? Go 2.5 or steel internals, forged pistons and mappable management on the sandard capacity?
Thanks for your time

don't regrind the crank.. for the saving against a new one it is not worth it.. they are not upto regrinding etc..
If only heading to 350 then no point going for head studs imho.. scoob engine doesn't have a habit of blowing head gaskets at 350.
spec can vary yes.. what year is it?

I really should read posts more.. lol
If it is a 97 and STi RA then should have basically an STi3 engine.. under bucket shims, nice cams etc..
best speak to Mark at www.LateralPerformance.co.uk for parts and advice

If a try STi RA engine then it should have solid lifters under bucket shims..
reasonable cams and capable of high rpm 7500rpm is the limit Subaru set but seen then used to slightly higher..
Pistons are possibly forged and possibly a closed deck block but you would have to check to be sure.
