Default Tubular headers

Fellas,

What should I look for when buying a set of tubular headers? Bore size etc. Any recommendations on make, or are they much the same?

Also, is there much diffence between equal and unequal in terms of performance as I'd rather keep the scooby burble.

Anyone?

Nobody bought/done some research on tubular headers before?

Is there any reason you want to fir tubular headers, when you can have the standard ones ported? I bought a set of ported headers from Harvey and recently fitted his matched up-pipe. The spool is around 200 rpm earlier and the car feels much torquier.

From what I've read on here, most tubular headers crack and increase the turbo spool. Perhaps they are required for serious power, but I think ported OEM's are good for 370 - 380 bhp.

Cheers

I'm after headers that will help to spool my recently acquired td06 49 which will be fitted to my 2.2 shortly.

If I had my standard headers ported, would they be up to the job?

I'm no expert in this stuff, but your turbo sounds large and the fact your going to be running a 2.2 block suggests your aiming for more than 400 bhp? If that's the case, you might be better off with tubular headers to get the maximum power, but don't expect fast spooling from what I've read.

I made the mistake of buying cheap headers. Not mentioning any names but if you look around SN for failed headers you'll soon find the answer.

My advice is this; buy cheap, buy twice. I now have lovely wrapped headers from Zen and am really pleased with them- they cost me a fair bit more, but it was worth doing.

The key seems to be the provision for expansion- the cheap ones don't have any, so they either crack where they're welded, or, in my case, blow the flexi bit.

Andy Forrest sells GT spec II headers for a very good price, they are extremly good quality with a three bolt flange instead of two, still slightly unequal length and sounds the bollox, i have also been down the cheap header route from EBAY, not advisable, check out Andy's website at
