ESL the place for you to go for a remap
ive been building my 96 wrx upto spec recently and as you with all early classics know you need a chip installing to enable a remap, after vast researching and a big variance in price
big dealer in scoobys £380 + vat plus £100 for rolling road + vat ( £600 there abouts)
and a couple of other big names asking the same , i looked further afield, as mine has vf23 turbo, full decat, hks headers up pipe, sti intercooler, 440 injectors , walbro, and hks evc , no generic map would do thus cancelling most of the ebay mappers out, then i found some info on ESL ENDURING SOLUTIONS who work with pts (big cossie and evo specialist) andy who works for esl offered me everything i needed , the initial chip £195 and a remap on it suited to my mods £50 plus £5 packaging , this catered for everything i had done to my car and it enabled me to keep my check engine light operative (very important), since fitting this to my car (also running 1.25 bar) ,absolutley flies and i mean is quick . and its so much smoother with crisp throttle response, all in all i think this is the place to go , andy listens to what you want and provides it at the right price with massive technical knowledge, his email is andy@enduringsolutions.com . and he is on here under esl . cheers rob

Hi Rob, glad you are happy and the car is shifting.
It is my standard map with fuelling rescaled for 440s in conjunction with a walboro and the boost cut raised above the Map sensor limit to allow td05 boost pressures in excess of 1.2bar to be run via an ebc or mbc. This way the user has control of their boost without recourse to me for another remap and can monitor for det to see how far the boost can be taken with an eye to the reliability of standard internals. Customers often run this set up at 1.2/1.3bar on decent fuel and standard wrx internals as a happy medium. I run this set up at 1.4bar on my 93WRX with a bit more ignition but I have a FMIC and run exclusively on 99RON.
As the standard ECU is retained the closed loop knock control is operative and can swing the ignition within a range to take advantage of other mods such as larger intercoolers. Running decats and IKs lets the engine breathe more freely and allows more power to be made simply by extending the torque curve up the engine speed range.
Its becoming a popular mod for those that want to go beyond the tested inital exhaust, IK and chip route and want to enhance the fuelling for bigger power. It isn't something I'd sell to anyone without having a chat first so the user understands their responsibilities w.r.t. boost control, but it was obvious Rob did and he's got a result.
Cheers
Andy

I'm sure they will work it out. But no 2 cars are the same, and having played the "maps by post" game before Zen, I can't recommend it. The saving grace is the std ECU's knock retard feature, but I would still be careful. Use with caution and/or knocklink for good results

From: Leeds - It was 562.4bhp@28psi on Optimax, How much closer to 600 with race fuel and a bigger turbo?
Ill second what paul says, and it is possible to map boost control if you know what you are doing, the maps are there!
We did it back in 2001 or so with my car and got 345bhp and 342Lbft.

AFRs track 11:1 on full tilt which should be safe for any healthy wrx engine. This map is not distributed without the owner having detonation indication on the car and I don't advise anything over 1.3bar as a general maximum, even if they arent seeing det at that point.
Customer service isn't always easy when you don't get to see the car (depends alot on the customer, and the vast majority of mine have been great), but the base ignition is mapped for safety and it's an inexpensive option for those that want to go beyond the basic 380cc map.
