Does this sound like a Fecked Engine Clicky


wondered if anybody has a clue what they think is wrong with my engine.. sounds like a diesel and even this clip doesnt even do justice to the noise it is making, it is like standing next to a jackhammer and that is no kidding.

The engine is an STi Ver 5 (wagon) with 66k and previousl good state of tune and no appremt problems, mapped by Pat H, and no activity on knocklink or lamda.

The story, driving back home up the A3 last week hearing this tapping noise, thought it was a loose heat shield or something. stopped in services, noise disappeared, back on A3 noise started again, then whent quietrt but noticed increased on accaleration. Took it steady to get it round the M£, then turning onto the M3 it was like someone turned on full volume, really loud and i mean loud banging from engine, 2 seconds later, ignition lights come on and I have no power and car cuts out, coasted onto hardshoulder. Engine dead wont start.. left it 15 minutes and car fires allthiught this crazy banging noise, realising i need to get a lift home with AA taxi i see the sign that says Fleet Services 1/2 mile, so the car starts but abslouely no power just enough to limp it down the hard shoulder, with it out of gear and coasting into services. get it home and it starts fine but this BANG BANG noise.

Any ideas, have had comments from its the cam tensioners to piston slap to holed no#3, big end baering collape.

appreciate anyone who has seen or suffered failure, any further advances on above.

oh for sure its farked.... sorry to be the bearer of bad news...

looking at either a rebuild from API (2k+)

or a recon engine.. 1k+

it was famous on here for a while!!!

mate i got no idea what that is but, mine sounded the same and id killed a piston... i wouldnt keep running it as thats only gunna get worse, best of luck though!

 

Yup,big ends gone matey, dont know which ones but that is big ends for sure, if it aint, well,WOW, Big ends !!
