Alright guys,im new to the site and new to imprezas so bare with me iv just bought a 95 wagon with 94k on the clock and its sweet as a nut apart from one fault, when i put my foot down boost builds up nicely till 5000rpm then it hesitates all the way up to redline, its most noticeable in 2nd gear,iv changed the plugs today to try and fix it but it hasnt helped, was hoping sum1 with experience might have an idea of what to try next ? thanks

sounds like you are in limp home mode . have you got the cel (check engine light) on , if so do a fault check.
also you might have a cracked coil pack .

ive had the same bother with my96 wagon, well what i should say is i still have. i have had it looked at by a trusty mech, checked my plugs and coil pack they were ok. he told me to change my dumpvalve(Forge) to the original one. not done yet but hoping this will cure the proplem.

no cel,the car runs fine up til 5000rpm,it was the same when i had the original dump valve on too so it cant be that, also i changed the plugs at the wkend and the coil packs looked fine, it dusnt do it in 1st gear either ,it has a cracked exhaust manifold do you think it could be down to that, perhaps losing pressure as the revs build up ? its doing ma head in

cheers for replies

I've got MY94 STI WAGON and it does the same!! I'm pretty sure it's the coil packs on mine as it only seems to do it if it's damp or wet and i'm told it's the moisture getting into the cracks! It's going in to the garage this weekend for work so will get coil packs checked and changed and let you know!

Fixed it! after work on friday i decided to put the standard air box back on with a k&n panel filter because i thought the green cone filter made the car feel more laggy, while i had it apart i decided to give the MAF sensor a clean,it didnt appear to be dirty but i thought i might aswell, put it back together took the car out and it now runs fine right up to redline! Might not be the same problem for you guys but its definitely worth trying before splashing out on coil packs,re maps etc
