Big power sti's and 2.5 conversions do use oil. My own car uses 300-400mil per 500 miles. There is a thread on 22b.com re oil use. Just a small price to pay for power.

Don't forget to check the oil when the engines hot. Oil expands when hot, which is why dealers only fill the car to MIN level. Mine uses non. 44k WRX PPP Blobeye filled with Millers CFS 10/40

i found this on internet somewhere- apparently this the official subaru info supplied to dealers
"Subject: OIL CONSUMPTION
Model(s): ALL IMPREZA, FORESTER, LEGACY & OUTBACK ENGINES
All internal combustion engines consume oil as part of the process of proper lubrication of moving parts. During normal operation of the engine the pistons and piston rings in particular are subjected to high combustion temperatures that require adequate oil lubrication to prevent overheating and subsequent seizure. During the lubrication process oil temperatures increase and a small percentage of the oil is vaporised (burnt) by the extremely high combustion temperatures particularly under high load/pressure conditions. As stated in the owner’s manual to properly maintain the vehicle between routine scheduled maintenance services it is essential to regularly check and top up the engine oil.
The normal consumption of engine oil is especially true in modern “low friction” engines that are designed to minimise fuel consumption and maximise power delivery while at the same time minimising the impact on the environment through lower gas emissions. These modern engines use more oil than previous generation engines due to the need to reduce the internal friction of the piston in the cylinder.
The rate of consumption will vary depending on the engine condition and the operating environment. Engine oil consumption is normally higher during the “run in” period (i.e. the first 6,000 – 10,000 miles) as the engine mechanical components “bed in”. Other operating conditions which can result in higher oil consumption include (but are not limited to), short distance running where the engine does not run consistently at normal operating temperature, high speed performance driving particularly in turbo engines and high load driving such as towing or mountain driving.
Due to the wide variety of operating conditions it is not possible to provide an exact specification for oil consumption however, once an engine is properly “run in” average oil consumption given normal driving cycles is approximately 1 litre per 2,500 – 3,000 miles. It is important to note however, that the oil consumption rate can vary between 1 litre every 1,240 miles to less than 1 litre per 3,800 miles depending on the specific engine condition and operating environment.
If it is suspected that an engine is using an excessive amount of oil (for example, after the engine has been properly “run in”, the vehicle has been operated under “normal driving cycles” and the oil consumption remains greater than 1 litre per 1,250 miles) please conduct a proper oil consumption test to determine if it is abnormal.
