Cone Filter
Hi GUYS, JUST BOUGHT A CONE FILTER FOR MY 1995 WRX IMPORT, BUT AS MY KNOWLEDGE OF THE SCOOBY ENGINE IS LIMITED, I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO FIT THE FILTER...THERE SEEMS TO MUCH STUFF IN THE WAY.
DOES ANYONE KNOW OF A WEBSITE, OR PICTURES OF A STEP BY STEP QUIDE ON FITTING IT.
THANKS
CARL

Looks like an Apexi to me. Fit is not hard but could cause your motor to run lean and knock, will need calibration

You would have been better off with a panel filter, all that cone filter will do there is suck in hot air from the engine bay which reduces performance, a panel filter would have used the cars existing cool air intake and would have been better.
On the other hand, fit the cone filter into the wing and you may get some more benefit from it, down sides being that it can get wet and it can be a pain to fit.
Realistially it may look good in the engine bay, but its doing a worse job than the crappy paper panel filter which it replaced

I find that cone filter does help when you are cruising especially at higher speeds, but for traffic purposes panel filters are fine. Just calibrate it if you are going to use the cone

The trouble is, with a good panel filter it will be considerably better than that cone, all that cone filter is doing (even at high speed) is absorbing hot air from the radiator and engine bay, a panel filter will just be getting the cold air feed so where as you may get a nice sound and "think" you have an improvement at speed, you probably dont
Try a rolling road run, one with a panel filter and one with the cone filter, you will find the panel filter is better even in that situation.

But it's all good. Suffice to say, we all have preferences and thats what makes us all unique. Personally if I was building a racer, it would be a cone all the way but since I don't I would definitely be stocky airbox for most purposes.
edit - I must also admit, the car I tested on with the CAI was not an Impreza hence your comments are almost 99.9% more accurate.
