Default Sick scooby classic

Hello All. I pulled up at some lights today after tootling down a main carriage way in 5th at 40, this is genuine (i had my 10 day old daughter in the back and its a 40 limit). When i came to a stop the idle started to go all over the place between approx 800rpm and 2500rpm and it sounded as if it was running on 3 cylinders. The check engine light also came on.

I pulled over and looked under the bonnet to no avail. I managed to crawl home (5 miles) although the car felt fine under acceleration but pulled when off the gas. When i got home i stopped the engine and left it for a few mins until my dad came home (2 heads better than 1). When i restarted it there was no improvement and it sounded even rougher from the induction filter, when i turned it off it seemed to breath back out of said filter for a few seconds.

Does anyone have any ideas to what is happening? Its booked in for a diagnostic on monday but i just dont want to get my pants pulled down so am looking for a heads up. The only small (small) guess i had was that the crank position sensor may be screwed and it causing the timing to be out.

Thanks for reading
Andy.

Car is a MY98/99 classic UK turbo with and decat exhaust, blitz induction kit (with cold air feed bonnet vent) and a forge DV.
