Default New Owner Needs More Power

Hi all,
since selling my scoob over 4 years ago ive sort of lost touch with tuning packages and prices etc... My mate has just bought a my99 uk turbo and he's looking at what to get tuning wise. So far he has a quikshift induction kit and he's about to order an exhaust system. a blue flame one i think. He's getting the downpipe too.

What are the next steps to take? I was thinking some sort of boost controller but is this worth doing and how far can you turn the boost safely without needing a remap.

He's not really going silly with power increases, he just wants something around 280bhp ish... (this doesnt seem a lot but i dont know how much extra he would have to spend and what to get)

Cheers.

He'll be running the TD04 so 280bhp woudl be about the max anyway.

Not sure about blue flame but i would get a full decat, Hayward and Scott are a good make. buy one off here and save some hard earned.

then get a green panel filter an uprated fuel pump prior to a remap. and i really would get a remap as this will make a big difference and make it safer as well

I wouldn't really touch a boost controller to be honest

Panel filter, full exhaust and then a remap will achieve between 270-280.

Did this myself on my MY00, 273bhp/273lbft.

You don't really need an uprated fuel pump until 320+ bhp, but a lot of people do it as a 'just in case' mod.

I did the uprated pump to be on the safe side. sometimes it can run lean when your giving it some if you dont.

for the money stick on an uprated fuel pump.

^^^^What he said ^^^^

Stay away from cheap exhausts (go with proven ones like H&S) induction kits (that'll probably **** your MAF) and boost controllers (no substitute for a remap). 280bhp or thereabouts is VERY achievable, figure on it cost 1k+ to do it properly. I would go with the fuel pump, it's not an expensive part and the one you've got will be 6 years old and may struggle at significantly increased power levels.

Cheers, ill pass it on. I have a blue flame exhaust on my evo. Its the same company that used to make mongoose exhausts, ive had no troubles and have been very happy with all of my mongoose/blue flame systems. Personally i think people sometimes pay for the name when they buy some fancy exhausts.
If he decided not to go for a remap but just got a boost controller instead, how much boost could it run and what sort of power would he be looking at?
Thanks again.
