Default Whats this APEXI thing

Thanks to the folk on here i am slowly finding my way around my WRX and fitting a few bits and bobs, i have a HKS filter which is connected to what i believe is the air flow meter, this in turn connects to an APEXI bit of kit (see pic) what does it do and is it original fit.

I've have the same bit it came with my Apexi IK it replaces the original Subaru pipework..The box with the plug attached is the MAF (mass airflow sensor).

Default Apexi IK

Thanks for that Is an Apexi IK a air filter? If so would i be better off sourcing the rest of it as i've read conflicting reports on here about the HKS one?

Induction Kit - IK

If your car is running under 350BHP, I'd try and revert bact to the standard airbox

Allegedly the HKS has poor filtration whereas the Apexi is meant to be good (i have 1 and its fine).
If you do want to keep the induction kit you would most probably be better off with Apexi but if you buy a new one it will come with the metal pipe.I've had an IK on my car for 3 years and its fine but this doesn't mean yours will be.
If you do keep the IK you need to sheild it from the heat of the engine bay.

Heres mine (i'm making a new heat sheild for it as the old one was naff)

Cheers Not sure what BHP it's running, it's a Jap import WRX with the following

HKS Exhaust
HKS Filter
HKS Dump Valve (extremely loud) i've heard i'd be better of with the original fitted
Various other HKS gauges etc, not sure what ecu it has, should it be a Z4? running on V Power with no obvious issues. What should be my next move,Suspension,re-map?

Got rid of my vta as it was f**king up my fuelling and causing the car to stall.
What year is the car (check under the passenger footwell there is a metal plate, remove the plate and your ecu is underneath).
Is it a full exhaust (with decat)?

hi m8 yes on that model if you have the std. imported model you should be running a TD05 turbo charger rather than the TD04 (smaller compressor housing)of the uk spec models and you should also have a z4 ecu in this car std bhp is good for about 260bhp some people claim 280bhp but that is with jap 100 octane fuel figures vary dependant on age and use of car! if you want to modify fit a boost controller and modify the ecu!
checkout www.enduringsolutions.co.uk and email Andy with youre requirements he is a top bloke and very helpful! you should then see closer to 300 ish with a bigger (walbro) fuel pump and decat releases alotmore horses (std cat very restrictive) .
from here it becomes a case of how much to spend bigger injectors, full decat system, tubular manifold, bigger turbo, Andy F remapped APEXI power FC, and elec boost controller, big bore 2.2/ 2.33/2.5 as i said how deep are you pockets!

Regarding the HKS filter, i've read fairly unfavourable comments on it on Scooby Net, which if you go to http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/filters_test/2/ are backed up, the filtration looks very poor.Searched on google for an Apexi supplier without much luck, anyone know a decent supplier?
