Getting started with mapping
Hi,
Me and my uncle have thought about getting a small mapping business up and running at his garage. Are there any mappers out there that can give me some advice on how they got started out, i.e. relevant training courses or books/resources. Would likely be on road mapping, what equipment/software is necessary too, i have a laptop yes lol!
Thanks
Nicky

To do Ecutek mapping I believe you need to go on Ecutek course and become accredited as you are affectively a reseller for their firmware and have to supply a license for each ECU mapped. ecutek.com will give you the details, but it appears to be down at the moment.
Never done it tho so could be wrong, but it does interrest me

Hi,
Thats the kind of attitude i like lol, as long as it doesnt involve melted pistons.....
I was thinking more about being trained on the principles of a good map, i.e. when to advance/retard timings, injector dutys and all that. I have a good knowledge of programming pc's (its my job) so the computer side of it is cool, i also have a fair understanding of electronics and wiring.
So mainly i am just after guidance/training on properly mapping a car. I know that a lot of this will come down to experience but i need to learn the fundamentals first....

maybe a more generic approach is needed as the basics will be the same just the way you apply it would be different
