MAF probably. MY98-00 cars had delicate hotwire MAF sensors which go very regularly, resulting in uneven idle and a flat-spot in the power delivery at about 4k revs. You MUST fix it ASAP and drive gently off-boost until you do, as it may result in the engine running lean and causing some very expensive damage. Easy DIY (I'm told), and don't get fleeced into buying the entire MAF and housing by the dealer. The MAF itself can be fitted into the existing housing and they're about 70-90 quid. If you do an ECU reset (disconnect battery for 30 mins or do THIS ) you will get error code 23 IIRC.

HTH
