Unhappy check engine light

Hi all wondering if anyone can help. I have a 95 gc8 impreza and have a fault. when i start it from cold sometimes the check engine light comes on and the fans kick in and the whole thing runs like a bag of nails if drivin but if the car is left to idle then the light and fans come on and off until it reachs working temp any ideas. thanks in advance

I am not on my home pc otherwise I would have posted a link.
Use the search function for ecu fault codes.
Then using the instructions you shoud be able to find the problem.
Your engine check light will flash in morse code, once the 2 black connector are connected. Then you wil be able to trace the faulty sensor etc & replace.

Smile boost at last

with my new found knowledge i have identified the coolant temp sensor as the fault bought one fitted it grazed my knuckle and now have a happy healthy scooby again. thanks again everyone for your advice.
