Default Apexi AVCR Boost Controller Setup

I am fitting an AVCR this weekend, but have a few questions before hand on my 2002 STI.

1: Is it ok to clip in the wiring to the ECU loom or does it have to be soldered in?

2:What feedback setting do you have the AVCR set to ie all 5 or 6 or what?

3:What NE points settings to use for 2002 STI?

4:What learn gear settings are you using?

5:What cylinder, speed and throttle settings ie 6, 4 and arrow in up position?

6: Do you have pics of connecting the boost solenoid to actuator and turbo and also pressure sensor into filter to make sure it is right?

Any other pitfalls i have missed?

1. Solder.
2. 3 is a good starting figure
3. Use the std ones but increase the last point to 7500 and the second to last to 6500.
4. Depends if you want learning on or off?
5. Cylinder depends on where you wire the RPM pickup should be 1 or 4, speed=4, throttle up - easy enought to check all of these.
6. No. But it's fairly straightforward, Actuator to COM, Turbo to NO, Inlet to NC. Tee into the DV hose for the map sensor.

Cheers

I will be wiring purple wire to RPM and not Injector.

I thought cylinder would have been 4 if connected to RPM?

What are the gear judge settings, you know the way there are 5 of these ie 140, 100, 70, 50 and 40.

When you say map sensor do you mean the pressure sensor that comes with the avcr?

Also what diagram for wiring installation do i go by is it the 4a diagram?

Sorry for all the questions.

sorry cant really help as I have mine fitted in conjuction with a power fc (I imagine most people who run one use it in conjuction with a remappped ecu)
I just have mine set to 1.2 bar and the duty on about 86, havent bothered with the in gear boost, or rpm specific boost. Did have a low boost setting on it though for fuel economy however the difference is not that great and the fun is nowhere as high

If you use the learn gear it will over ride the other settings any way your best bet is to use the start gear and you can set boost for each gear then it goes like F~~ck they are not hard to put in don't cut any of your ecu wires just splice into them the hardest part of putting it in is getting that wiring through the firewall

4 is correct if using the RPM connection yes..

gear judge - go out in the car with it running.. look at the figure on the right and put it in the left for the gear you are in.. the unit will then know what gear you are in..

yes the pressure sensor is the map sensor..

How do you mean set boost for each gear? I have the start duty for each gear set but not boost.

Can you tell me how to set it?

set up the boost and duty in one gear say 4th.. so it hits target..

then increase the start duty in the lower gears to make the target also and decrease (negative) in 5th slightly to stop it over shooting.. just if running high boost watch it else you will blow the lower gears running the boost through them.. boost builds quicker and higher in the higher gears due to the increased load.

I have been fiddling about trying to set my avcr up and tried 5 runs with foot to the floor in fourth to find im getting my target of around 1.45-1.5bar at 70% duty.

Im running an aps sr40 and find it a bit laggy and doesnt come in till 3500-4000rpm, due to this i adjusted by duty to 90% and 80% at 3000 rpm and 3500 and seems to work a bit better.

I want to have the turbo come in a bit earlier, if i reduce the ne points from 3000, 3500, 4000, 4500, 5000, 5500, 6500 and 7500 to
2500, 3000, 3500, 4000, 4500, 5000, 6000, 7000, do you think that would work better?

I tried learn gear but car overshot to 1.7 bar and didnt like it, so turned it off in all gears, i find it hopeless.

What kind of start duty should i set 1st-5th gear at then?
Does +10, +10, +10, 0 and -5 sound reasonable or what?

Also do the settings make any difference seeing i have a 6 speed STI as i have set gear judge for 1st to 5th as i see them in 1st to 5th gear, is this correct or should 1st gear values be set in 2nd gear, 2nd gear set in 3rd gear, 3rd gear set in 4th gear, 4th gear set in 5th gear and 5th gear value set in 6th gear?

Cheers Simon,

That's what I thought, but just wanted to check that I hadn't missed another setting somewhere else.

Cheers,

Wayne.

it will make no difference as before 3000rpm it will be using the 3000 setting

the AVC-R will assuming you are in 5th when it 6th.. so the settings for 5th will do 5th and 6th.

start duty sounds reasonable yes
