Default Heat wrapping question?

This may be a silly one, but...

Have full decat at the moment up and down pipe included.

At no point when i was having these fitted did the subject of heat wrapping arise. which you might have expected with me being a scooby newb at the time and the garage supposed to be respected.

Now, will be having a turbo and header change soon so will be getting them wrapped at the same time.

How far down the exhaust is it worth wrapping, why do people stop with justy the headers and up and down pipe.

Im assuming there would prob be no more benefir from doing the whole lot.

Hi mate.

My understanding:

Headers, down pipe and uppipe wrapped to reduce under bonnet temps first and foremost (also said to aid gas flow inside the pipes). It's not a necessity though and many run their cars quite happily on decats without heat wrapping. The headers have a heatshield as does the turbo (which hopefully you've retained after your decat DP was fitted). My opinion, anything you can do to reduce underbonnet temps is a good thing in terms of effeciency and safety.

The rest of the exhaust is not worth doing as I understand it.

ahh, so its more for keeping heat out from under the bonnet, i knew this was one reason, but thought the main reason was improved gas flow.

Will stick to just up and down pipe then.

And yeah the turbo heatshield was trimmed down a bit but still retained

surely it's worth wrapping every thing to the bb tho to aid the flow as much as possible?

There is very little to be gained, if anything from wrapping the exhaust system down stream of the down pipe. The exhaust gas temperature has cooled considerably by the time it gets to the end of the down pipe.
As well as reducing under bonnet temperatures, retaining heat in the gas pre turbo assists with gas flow and improves spool.
Wrapping the turbo exhaust housing further helps spool and reducing under bonnet temperatures.
I won an exhaust system from Scoobymania and it was a good bit of kit but a bit noisier than I wanted. I therefore wrapped the whole exhaust and back box. There was no difference in performance or noise as far as I could tell.
