Default Quick one about oil filters ?

Is it best to stick to genuine subaru oil filters or is it ok to use aftermarket ones ? Some people say to use nothing other than subaru ones ! Whats the general thought with everyone on here ?

A genuine one from subaru, complete with a sump washer, costs less than £5.

Nothing wrong in using a good quality aftermarket item. Fram, Purolator etc.

Don't forget to fill it before you fit it or your engine will go bang...

It's just good practice. If you search for **** oil change you'll get the whole lowdown on the subject. But basically, genuine Subaru filters are the cheapest and the best, so it's pointless using anything else.

I fill mine whilst draining the oil, so it takes no longer to do the whole job.

Dosnt that date back to the early days when oil pumps wernt strong enough to drag the oil through quick enough when the filter was empty b4 the engine got damaged?

Well I just do it because it's no hassle to fill it while I'm doing the rest of the job. When you see the amount of oil that will go into it and the bubbles that will come out, it's a little perverse NOT to do it. The filter is properly filled and ready to do its job straight away once you start turning the engine over.

Agree with Silent.
I also use Sti filters and Semi synthetic oil in my 407 bhp racer for the last 4 years and it has never let go.

Will do the same change this weekend and pre fill.

Why not, simply good engineering practice, not clever or anything, just good practice.
