No spark!! i want to cry!
I have a 98 STi V4, it decided yesterday to run on 3 cylinders instead of 4
i checked the sparks and discovered no spark from number 4, did all checks and narrowed it down to no spark from the coil pack on number 4.
Today i fitted a new coil pack, and still have then same problem, number 4 does not spark.
I want to Cry!!!!!!
help any 1

Was the coil pack new or 2nd hand? Do you know someone else who has an impreza you can borrow the coil pack from to see if theirs works on yours?

Are you sure there is no problem with the lead and the cap is correctly fitted to the plug can sometimes be a simple thing missed.
The coil pack fires 3&4 spark together so assuming cylinder three has a spark the chances are the coil pack is fine.

well what i did to find out was i pluged number 4 into a spark plug and laid it on my engin bay and fired car up, and there was no spark, so i did same with number 3 and it did spark, so then i put lead no 4 on 3 and it still sparked, so now i am confused!

Anyway I could be wrong with the above but assuming its the case I would think that there is a problem with the wiring leading to the plug that the coil pack is actually pluged into. Teddykiller has shown that the coil packs are all OK so it must be the connecting wiring to that particular cylinder at fault.

98 STi V4 Single coil pack not coils, or not that i have ever seen.
But as said you do need to check the wiring back to the source, which in this case is the ecu. Assuming you do have the single coil pack then there should be 3 wires connecting this to the engine loom then to the block connectors by the battery. Also check your ecu connections are sitting tight.
Cylinders 3&4 are fired from the same output on the ecu which is why I assumed if three was firing you have a good connection and the coil is in good order?

If you have the single coil setup it tends to be the HT leads that break down and as UN-INK points out the feed to this triggers the sparking of 3 and 4 together so if one works so should the other. You'd be very unlucky to have the same issue on two coils! and so it seems to point to HT lead or Plug.
I guess we'll wait and see what Greenflag have to say
