Unhappy MOT - Failed !

Just had her in for the MOT and she's failed miserably on the emissions.

Chap at garage said it's 'cos of the de-cat back box and I'd need to put the original back on. Does this sound right and if so, anyone got one I could borrow for a couple of days ?

('94 WRX Classic by the way)

Cheers.

If it's a 94 import, it should be tested at the 3.5% non cat test. This is due to the fact that the car was 1st used before March 95 (and after 92 of course), and that there is not an exact match in the MOT emissions book. Unfortunately a lot of garages don't seem to be aware of this.

Dissagree my 93 wrx is straight through exhaust system no cats at all , warm it up and it always passes could be your lamba sensor on its way out was engine warm or cold for test also cat is not in the backbox but is located in the down pipe the back box does not effect the test at all .

Spoke to the garage and they've never heard of this. Do you have any links to anything official to back this up ?

Cheers.

http://www.vosa.gov.uk/vosacorp/repo...01992-2002.pdf

There you go, that is a page from the MOT examiners manual that every MOT station should have a copy of.

Just been on the phone to VOSA regarding the test and have been informed that this has now been updated and there is now an exact match in the analyser database for my car.

Bugger !

Thanks again for your help rob.

That is a bugger, I have an MY93 WRX import without any cats, and have to MOT it soon. I wonder if this means I am going to have problems?

I have just phoned VOSA myself and they have Subaru Impreza listed as turbo 2000, sounds like a UK model to me, therefore not an exact match? I'm not working Monday so I think I will go and have a chat at my local MOT place, see what they say.

Just phoned VOSA again to clarify this once and for all, and I have now been told that there IS NO EXACT MATCH FOR A SUBARU IMPREZA WRX (IMPORT). When they ask is it a 2000 turbo they mean is it a 2000 turbo model (UK), not wether it has a 2000 turbo engine.
