I don't keep mine open much above 55/60mph. I remember Andy F posting in a thread not long that he once forgot to close his before he went and did a run. He said his was fine.

Cool..

What was his terminal on that run mate? Do you remember?

Im pretty sure he doesnt have a vent in his current car, so must of been a previous car.. which obviously didnt have a spec of engine he has now.

Anyone else?

I have had mine open up to about 150, anything more will cause irrepairable damage to your diagphram due to the cabin pressure.

Yes, at Knockhill, didn't seem to be any adverse effects.

Ive been up to 112 with it open no probs, subaru say don't open it above 80 km/h, but you can open it and then go over 80 km/h. I've opened it at 90 mph, goes up a bit quick, but no probs so far

My friend piopped mine open while we were at 70mph, bent the "arms" for the vent. Would not shut properly after but got it straightened.
I find that when it's open at say above 50mph, the wind noise from the front window increases. Read somewhere that as the cabin pressure increases, it causes the windows to push outwards.

Default Hi Frayz

I believe Zak had mine open whilst giving it the treatment 'Pre-purchase'... IIRC he thought hitting the limiter in fifth seemed like an opportune moment to see if it was in good working order,.. I seem to remember him saying something about it being a lot harder to close @ that speed, than it was to open.

BTW... saw your car whilst visiting Zak last weekend. It's a fine example. I particularly like the flocked dashboard.

Frayz,
mid summer I wouldn't open it anyways if its hot you would be suprised how many wasps /bees/birds (I kid you not on the last one) etc you get in the car on another note Im sure on 22b john felstead had got a translation of the jap info about the roof vent.

I was doing about 80 on a windy day and my friend wanted to see what would happen if he opened the flap...... It broke off from the hinge and slammed into the roof, sounded like a gunshot and left a nice little dent in the roof

So im guessing most speeds are safe up to 120 providing the vent is locked open at low speed first?

yes. A warning in printed by Subaru on the vent saying do not open over 80kph. Once its open you can speed up because it can cut through the air. If you open it while going fast it will "catch" the air and will be pulled off.

Done 120 with mine once by mistake at Bedford Autodrome but it seemed fine like previously stated it will wrench off at lower speeds if opened whilst briskly on the move
