gearbox code is TY752VB3BA he says it has a 4:1 diff. also has the 4:1 rear diff. will i need this as well yeah. is this gearbox any good for 330bhp on my00 turbo 2000. also what sort of ratios has it got, what speed will i top out at. also what sort of revs when cruisin at 80 or so in 5th.
basically i dont mind the short ratios as im all up for quick accleration lol. is this box any good and shall i buy it lol. cheers for any help. cheers. nick j

If the box is from an RA the gearing will be very short!
Top speed will be roughly 125 - 130 mph on the redline, 80mph will be approx 4000rpm (its about 3000rpm on the standard UK box)
Best look for an STI especially the later one as it has an 8 bolt mounting and it therefore stronger
You will need the diff

If it helps here is a transmission chart with all the part numbers on to help you identify the gearboxs, one guy on Ebay is saying the gearbox is from an imported Impreza when the code says it's a UK gearbox

cheers for that, well i checked the chart and the gearbox is what he says it is lol which is a bonus lol. i dont mind 4000rpm at 80 and 130 max speed, so its just the issue of wether its stronger than my00 turbo 2000 gearbox, will it handle the 330bhp quite easily. the jdm type ra has gotta be 290 brake standard isnt it. plus the box has only done 56k appermntly. soon as i know if its strong enough i will prob buy it lol. cheers

That gearbox should be able to handle the power, don't forget that at Motorway speeds the engine will be running at a faster speed than usual so the heat produced maybe more also 100mph is about 5000rpm! imagine running your car at 4000 - 5000 rpm for a long time!
I nearly bought the same box but I use my car for motorway miles as well a A/B roads and decided against it due to the fact I need to be able to cruise on the motorway.

An RA on a long motorway run is VERY tiring (personal experience).
The Sti gearing is much nicer all over imho.
It is torque that kills a box and the way you mash the changes.
My Sti v3 box has survived 380 x 370 engine for 3 year, 120+ drag starts and 8K road miles.
Now have a Type R dccd box (8 bolt) because I want the accelleration now and the strength.

Having recently had a power upgrade, I was advised that my 95 RA box was more than good enough to cope with 350 bhp. Had it stripped and rebuilt, two woodruff keys replaced and the outer shaft I think, just to be sure of no problems down the line.
I'd agree that it doesn't make for a pleasant long distance motorway mule (you'll be cruising at about 4000rpm), but away from junctions and roundabouts on the open road the short gearing makes for awesome acceleration, especially if you get a clutch/flywheel upgrade and can bring in the power quickly. Great for overtaking too, no need to change down since you're already in the right RPM range for full boost.
I was advised that if I upgraded IC/turbo etc. later and wanted 400bhp+ I'd probably need to start thinking about fitting an STI 6 speed box as well since the torque might strip third gear on mine.

Mine is as above, and although 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th are very short....5th gear is very long allowing for 3000rpm at 70mph and 30+ mpg.

The difference between gears definitely lengthens in 4th/5th on my RA box which means the Power FC/AVC-R need some careful tuning otherwise WOT on change into 4th/5th gives a dangerous boost spike since you hit a lower RPM area of the map at higher speed (seen it reach 1.7 bar before some tweaks to keep it back)
3000rpm on the motorway would be nice, I'd be able to hear the stereo....
