APS Twin Vent DV Question

Hi,
I currently have an APS Twin Vent DV fitted to my car.
I won't go into the long long story as to why I have it, but let me explain the current problem.
I'm now running more boost than before and the problem I am getting is this.
In 6th gear, when I give it full boost (that 1.77 bar on a 20G) the boost comes in but suddenly I get what I can only describe as a DV vent to atmosphere noise and the car jerks slightly, the boost drops back a bit and then back up, and again a VTA noise. First reaction to is lift off the throttle.
Damn annoying.
This only happens in 6th on high load.
Now, the APS has been fully wound open to make it a recirc, BUT there is still the gap on the side of the unit which in my opinion is still making it able to vent to atmos.
I have tried fitting a friend OEM DV, but when fitted I was getting a boost leak even with a new gasket, and hence I dropped about 5psi so the problem went away, along with loosing around 30+ bhp !
So, the APS is back on for the moment. So, far short of borrowing another OEM unit to try my thoughts were this.
Can the hole on the side of the APS be plated and welded up, to make it a fully recirc ? Worth a try ?
