Has any one else had problems getting their classic Scooby through the new MOT emissions law had mine motd on Saturday every thing was fine it walked it apart from some gas reading it had to be 0.2 or something and it use to be 0.3 last year the lads at the mot station kept testing and retesting till it went through I think they helped it my self as it seemed a strange way of doing it and thats what i say the the law

If you car is a 93/94 import wrx then they should have tested it with the non cat limits, which is 3.5%. I have verified this with VOSA myself (2 days ago).

Well 12 months on and I need an mot again.
The car is of the road at the moment while I replace the up pipe while I am doing this I decided to port the headers and fit a decat down pipe before I get an mot.
So I called at the mot station that did it 2 years ago as when I check the mot certificate they had put it through a non cat test but when I spoke to them they said they hadn’t and even though my car was a 93/94 wrx import it would still have to have the cat on to pass the test. But as robsw has said he has checked with vosa and they have confirmed it what the hell is going on

I went to my local mot station as i am in the process of fitting a decat downpipe to my 1996 wrx import the guy said as long as it's an import and not a uk spec classic it will be put through the non cat test (-3.5%) as the car is not listed on the database ..

I would take it to a MOT station that knows the fecking rules (unless the rules have changed since my last MOT in July 2007)
A pre July 95 import needs only the Basic Emissions Test http://www.vosa.gov.uk/vosacorp/repo...01992-2002.pdf

Right just been on to my 5th mot station about this and iv been onto vosa about it and this is what they have said (this is a copy and past from the email I have taken out all the crap at the bottom of the email) please read from the bottom of the email to follow the Conversation

Dear Ian

Thank you for your reply.

Please find below the page from "The MOT Inspection Manual for Car and
Light Commercial Vehicles" which shows that the age of your vehicle doesn't
automatically exempt it from a CAT test:

(See attached file: Section 7.3 pg 9.pdf)

To take a look at the Emission Standards Book you would have to go along to
your local testing station and ask them to take a look. The book states
the following:

Subaru - Impreza
1.6I
1.8I
2.0I
2000 Turbo
P1

(New) Impreza Model Year Code 1 onwards (The model code is the 7th digit of
the VIN number)
1.6I
2.0I
2.0 Turbo
2.0 Turbo Sti
2.5 Turbo
2.5 Turbo Sti

If your vehicle is any of the above then it has an exact match and would
need to meet the limits set out by Subaru. The only other option you have
is to get a letter from the manufacturer to say that your vehicle was never
fitted with a CAT. Without this the vehicle is going to have a CAT test.

Regards

Rebecca

hi Rebecca

i have been informed by several people from a well known website that there

is not an exact match in the Service Exhaust Emission Standards for Road
Vehicles - 13th Edition as my car is a 93/94 SUBARU IMPREZA WRX JDM the uk
equivalent at the time was called a SUBARU IMPREZA UK TURBO. the cars are
different from each other in several ways so would my car have to go
through
the cat test?

could you please tell me if and where i can look at the Service Exhaust
Emission Standards for Road Vehicles - 13th Edition so i can check myself
if
there is an exact match to elevate confusion

thank you very much for your help
ian

Post up the pdf because by the looks of it in the last email (first one that's posted) that all imprezas will be tested as a 2.0L (whether it's a import or not)

OK call me stupid but doesn't the first line of the first piccy say about that you can have a non CAT test?
As the early WRX isn't in the database (so therefore no exact match) or are they using the UK specs?

We as a company have been through this predicament before & as our parent company owns several MOT test stations we sought advice from the powers to be.

The term "Exact Match" does not mean that the letters WRX must be printed in black and white in the Emission Standards book.

The fact that jdm cars have a Subaru 2.0L Turbo engine fitted (just as does the uk car) & that engine is listed means that it is due a cat test.

All derivatives of this engine (Uk,Jdm,Austrailia,Etc) have always been fitted with cats, so offically they should not be put through a non cat test.

What if the car was fitted with a 2.5 conversion could it not be seen as not an exact match as there was never 93 94 wrx impreza ether UK or Jap speck
