Default What is Re-mapping?...I'm a n00b

I have been reading about people getting their scoobs re-mapped, what does this mean?...I know I'm a noob lol...I have an 07' Impreza 2.5i and I don't even get my license for 10 days! So what does this re-mapping do and how much does it cost?

Thnx

Bascially it's re programming the ECU.(Cars PC if you will.)

It controls fuel and spark plus quite a few other things, optimising the settings for your mods you've done.

Also cars are designed to run for a quite a few miles plus using lower octane fuel.Optimising for higher octane/uk fuel and UK condtions is also a part of it.

You have an 07 Impreza 2.5i, and you're not 17 yet, and don't even have a license?

Are your parents a) mad? b) rich as croesus? c) both???

Remapping - something you can't do cos you'll lose your warranty (or do your parents provide the warranty ? )

Seriously, doesnt anyone else think this is a little bit nuts. Not the fact its a 07 car (if u can affored it then why not) but the kid hasnt even got his license and his first ever car is a 2.5i, he's gonna end up killing him self or some innocent bystander.
This is the reason why we have insurance, to stop kids getting straight into cars like these

Sorry but im completely dumb founded by this.

In general that would be true, however there are racing drivers out there not yet 17yrs old who'd have little trouble passing their test if they were but the legal age. They are far and few between mind you.

He's 16 years old, can u remember what u where like at that age. I nearly wrote myself off on a push bike never mind a 2.5i scooby. I let my girlfreind try my scooby for the first time the other day, she's been driving a year and her foot slipped off the clutch and nearly put us through the junction when the car shot forward like a bullet.

Cars like these take a graduall time to build up to. Anyone with half a brain knows that. My dad thought i was nuts getting mine at 26.

Too true. they could be a good driver but 300bhp (or whatever) at 17 yrs.
At 17 with no real road driving i find this mad!

I just hope he's not driving round my area

Not sure what the driving tuitions r like in america but has far as im aware i think u can role up to the driving school and do ur test when ever u feel confidant enough. I think u can apply and do ur test nearly on the same day? I might b wrong.

If it's a US model....it will probably be the naturally aspirated rs model as opposed to the turbo version...

Still, its a massivly powerfull car for a beginer drive with little or no driving experence. He makes 1 little easy learner mistake and the car will punish him big time. I still scare myself in mine sometimes, when the car gives me a quick reminder of what its capabile of.

How, they don't have any corners to crash on. The american's have to try extra hard to kill themselves in a straight line

Always wanted to drive in Portland (i think) The district with the masive inclines and sharp decents. That place always looks cool in the car chase films.

Calm down bro, first of all, when I started looking into cars I told my dad about Subaru. He saw the 5-Star crash test ratings and all-wheel drive and liked the idea. The 2.5i is 175 hp nonturbo...not that big of a deal...besides I'm prolly a better driver than u...I've been racing dirtbikes and driving stick shift cars since I was little, so I think I know how to use a clutch, do u think so?...anyways, my dad had an 03' JEEP that he didn't drive anymore and they were having a sale at the Subaru dealership...We got a trade-in difference of $3,000 plus tax on ONLY the difference amount...Now do you feel like a smart@$$? , cuz u should.
