whats millage on your car what year ,
if the the turbo is a td04 (96 wrx on) i would say the bearing is worn making the seals oval which causes the smoke, good news they are cheap to pick up second hand and easy to change

blue smoke will be engine related, ring etc, white smoke will be turbo related you have to make sure your car is really warm as it will smoke when it is cold so run it then park a blip the throttle then look to see what the smoke is.also if it is turbo when it comes into boost it will smoke like a bugger you wouldn't see anything but smoke??

I had both blue and white smoke, and a general smell of oil. Even when warm.
Do you have a catch-can? I've removed mine and all smoke is gone. And the smell. New rings recently, too.
However, still using more oil than I'm happy with so inclonclisive at mo. But if you have a catch-can, either clean out the whole induction system and/or get rid of the bloody thing and just vent straight to atmosphere.
You can refit it at anytime of course, but they clog up with ****e very easiliy in cold weather. It will, at least, remove one of the possible causes.
Does your car run okay otherwise? Mine is perfect now - just using too much oil (2.5l conversion) for comfort.
Richard.
