Default Petrol smell question

Hi folks.
I was under the bonnet today, refitting the turbo heat shield. A couple of times I started the engine to check for rattles and noticed a smell under the bonnet. It wasnt exactly like petrol, more like a very rich mixture. Couldnt see anything and it was more on the drivers side, but only while on fast idle. As soon as the revs dropped it went.
Anyone else noticed that before? Is it something to worry about or am I just paranoid?
Ta

Will run pretty rich when cold, maybe the exhaust fumes were just drifting back under the car from the tailpipe. Otherwise could you hear any part of the exhaust blowing. If it was more an burning oil smell then probably the rocker cover gaskets.

Funky, you may be right, as it goes when the idle drops. Think I'll just keep an eye on it.
