over run problem, can anyone help?
Hi all,
I am a newby to subarus and in september bought a lovely 03 plate WRX.
I don't know if its normal but when I'm driving and go to change up a gear the engine will over run by maybe 200 - 300 rpm. Its really annoying and sounds like I'm not lifting my foot off the accelerator quick enough. I have oiled all related moving parts under the bonnet but still does it. Any ideas? The car is standard apart from a CAT back system from Revolution.
Thank You, Jonny.

Yep.
I used to think it was my crap driving but it isn't (honest!).
Lots of people say the same thing about the newage (mine is MY01, lots of ppl observe it on MY03/4. Not heard of it on most recent models).
Doesn't do it all the time, just enough times to make you think its a problem. Well done for having the commitment to go oiling everything to try and solve it, but it just seems like a quirk of the car. Mine seems better since my last remap actually, but it might just be I don't notice it now.
If I find the thread with a theory as to why it does it I'll post it up

I think its deliberately programmed in the standard map to make sure excess air is available at times to reduce emissions. Also note how as you bring car to halt idle will be at 1100 rpm or so for a moment before it drops to 750 ish for same reason. Most newer cars are like this now and I think it degrades the drivability of these cars.. Sometimes its refreshing to drive an old banger with a carburetter just for the sharp throttle response.
