Getting 330 - 350 bhp from a bugeye?
I'm considering getting back into a Scooby after an 18 month absence, especially given that "new age" cars seem to have gone very cheap.
My previous 2 Scoobies were a 290bhp 93 WRX (Scoobysport full system plus MBC and HKS induction) which went like a rocket (very aggressive boost profile).
I replaced that with a 2001 bugeye which also had about 290bhp (Superchip and running 20psi on the standard turbo) plus full de-cat etc.
The bugeye felt a lot smoother, but never felt anything like as fast as the classic (obviously due to the extra weight). What I want to acheive is the same feeling of speed I got from the classic in a bugeye, which I reckon in power-to-weight terms means about 330 - 350bhp. I also want that quite aggresive boost profile back as well.
My plans would be to go for a FE TD05 plus full de-cat, bigger injectors, uprated fuel pump, FMIC and a remap. Would that be enough to hit my target or will I need more? The car will be my daily driver so was wondering if many other run this power on a daily basis and whether it causes any problems (I'm guessing not?)

I assume its a WRX, or is it a JDM STi ?
Just taken (In November, my 02 sti UK to 330 via AndyF) - Mods list on my website - Wildsworld index if that helps.... though its doesn't seem quite as quick as my old 98 UK, but that had 320 too
Still - 18/20g here we come

I know each car is different, but i bought a JDM Bugeye STI recently and only put a K&N 57i induction kit on it, total de-cat and a 3 1/2" Remus exhaust.
Had it on a dyno today 326.9 bhp and 293 lbs of torque. Runs as smooth as silk. The the turbo is an IHI VF30 which i'm told is standard factory turbo for my car.
No probs on the fueling and not over modded

I'd consider the expense of buying a WRX and the costs of mods to get it to say 330HP and be aware of the gearbox life, vs the expense of buying a non PPP STI and just having a fuel pump and remap to get it to 330HP and no box worries.

Note other turbo options for a bit more response -
Hybrid TD04 320bhp to 330bhp (maybe not enough for you ?!).
VF35 - 340bhp+
Another option to the FMIC is an STi TMIC, which would be fine for what you're after.
Then of course, you'd have to compare costs with the STi route, as above !

It was for me - I KNEW I'd want more power than the old car and that the 5 speed wrx box was a weak point over 300lbs/ft, so if I had a WRX, I'd need to replace the box anyhow - which would have been the 2K !
Also, its pretty (relatively) cheap (say 1500?) to get an STI to 330 with daily driver reliability - don't know about the wrx, but the TD04 would need replacing, injectors too, so I'm guessing not....(Not to mention a brake upgrade)
Depends on your goals...

If the STi is the starting point then:
Prodrive sports cat (£250 2nd hand)
Centre section decat (£100)
Fuel pump (£100)
remap (£600)
No worries about a gearbox, better brakes than a WRX, uprated suspension over a WRX - a bummer if you want a wagon though
