Default Power enginnering remap?

I am going to fit a twin dump decat downpipe to my UK MY98 in the next month or so and will be looking to get it remapped not long after.

What I would like to know is if anyone has got one of Power Enginnerings chips fitted to their 98 and if it is any good or not as I dont want to spend silly money on a new ecu if I can get mine chipped? I doubt that I will be going much further with engine modding so is chipping a good way to go?

Is there anywhere else that I could go in the south east to get a remap?

Thanks in advance.

Martin - had my 98 done by them - 281bhp and 262 lbs/ft with supporting mods - see Wildsworld index for more info.

If you're not going any further than this (and I mean you've REALLY thought about it - I'd decided not to go any further and did anyway !) then I'd go for it....

If you think that there is ANY chance that you'll go further and can budget a little more for it, then go for a PFC and remap - IIRC, AndyF's PFC (ecu replacement) and map was not much more than PE's chip and map.

Also, bear in mind that the '98 UK runs a TD04 turbo and you won't get any more than around 280 out of it anywhere - so, again, PE's stuff will do then job if you're not going to change the turbo at any point.

Hope this helps - and if you have any questions, feel free to post or pm me ....

Hi Mark, that is a great help thanks for the info. I am 99% sure about not going any further as I won't be able to afford new turbos etc for quite sometime. I will give AndyF a pm though and see what he can offer, but I think that PE could well be the way to go. Thanks again.

Did you make 280 BHP from just the remap with a panel filter and decat fitted?

IIRC, then yes - full decat, tsl b/b and K+N panel. The boost was turned up to around 1.1-1.2 bar and mapped by PE.

I was very happy with it at the time, as it drove very smoothly and felt quite a big improvement over the stock power (and a jump from the power with just the exhaust - I ran decatted with no remap for around a year too).

Thats great that you had no problems with the decat and no remap as it means I've got a bit of time to save for it. I will get a knocklink or afr for the time being to keep an eye on things.

Thanks again mate you have been a great help and for the link it was spot on.Both you cars look amazing.
