Default Engine light problem - please advise!!

Had my 02 WRX for nearly 2 years and it's been 100% reliable.

But....... the engine light keeps coming on (and staying on) The local scoobie dealer says it is because the fuel in the UK and its a Jap car, but it is a UK manufactured vehicle. Confused? I am....

A chap near me recently did some work he thought would cure it which involved cleaning out the injectors (I think I am no techie) and the problem went away for a month, now the light is back on

1)
Any idea what it might be?
2)
Any good mechanics in east berks/west London?

HELP it's really annoying

Cheers

WRXforever.

Needs to be plugged into a diagnostic, then you can tell if one of the many sensors has failed. If it's intermittent and doesn't flash whilst it is on then it's more than likely the EGT, O2 or similar. None are big jobs but need identifying and sorting really. Fuel shouldn't be causing these symptoms in a UK car. Get it to another dealer or a reputable specialist for a proper investigation.

Thanks mate.

It has been on the diagnostic a couple of times. The main dealer told me it was something to with the cat, (it wasn't as it passed it's MOT on the cat test) then the other guy said it was to do with one of the fuel chambers getting dirty.... As you can imagine it is very irritating.

Any ideas about who I could also go to in this area would be appreciated.

I have an 01 wrx and had a similar problem with CEL always coming on, it was either missfiring or was some sensor or other but it seems that these cars are renowned for random CEL's. I did however have a 2mm washer changed on my gearbox neutral sensor for a 1.25mm washer and the CEL didn't come on again! A few people have said this is a common problem, might be worth a try for the sake of £10
