Default Short shift ball size

Evening all, a quick question hopefully.

Do you know whether the ball size on the gear shifter is any different on a 98wrx to a 96uk?? As I recently got one from a 96uk and the ball appears way too big to go into the existing hole on the 98......hmmm, I assumed they were all the same size up until newage sti's??

Any ideas??

Many thanks

Ok thanks,

I was comparing and the new one (96uk) appears a fair bit bigger than my old one, neither cars have had any changes to linkages... Just to add, where the ball fits into, can this socket part be changed?

Thanks

Now I brought and fitted a shorter shift to my mates late classic scooby last year, on the box it said 1997 to 2002.....

Now after a coffee we discussed it in some detail, he said 'well they didn't start selling them till 97' but i thought they were a different size as i helped him pull one out of another (his previous 96 plate wrx import) before it was crushed a few years ago so he could sell it on flea bay.

Now it may just be I am getting older and things seam smaller..... but I am sure the 1997 onwards had the same size up blob eye 2003 shape.

But the 96 was different?
