That oil will be fine for normal road use. Also, you only need a new sump plug washer, not the plug itself. :thimb:
May aswell get the filter and washer from subaru as it is only about £6 for both.

10/40 is fine for a non tuned motor, just remember to keep filling the oil filter before you fit it.
You can go direct to subaru or one of the suppliers on here for the filter or even a local parts distributor will do.

yes. fill the new filter with oil before screwing it on.
I thought the job was a right swint to do though. Working through that tiny flap doesn't give a lot of room to get hold of the filter! Mine an 03 but i suspect it isn't much different
5t.

you should take of the right cam sensor before starting no need to fill filter turn engine over till oil light goes out reconect sensor and start it this is the proper way of doing it so oil gets around engine

As you can see everyone has there own way to do what should be a simple job. As you have a classic I would take the under tray off completely and I dont bother with filling the filter up as I'm a firm believer that there's enough oil left on the components to deal with the normal starting up after an oil change while the oil pump spends a second filling it up while the engine idles. I'm pretty sure that Subaru dealers do not prime the filters before fitting them ... could be wrong though. I seem to recall that there's an old thread somewhere that gives the pro's and con's to the varying methods so it might be worth a search if you are concerned and each to his own
