Default Differing opinions for 1st oil change between English/German dealer - ATTENTION!

I bought my '07 WRX from Germany a couple of weeks ago and have covered 1600 km so far. The german dealer told me not to change the oil for the first 15.000 km as it's a special oil for the first drive and Subaru doesn't want you to change the oil within the 1st 15.000 km.

I have phoned the UK dealer who told me that they do the first oil change at 1k miles.
Who should I trust?! I don't like the idea of a 15k km oil change interval unless Subaru uses a special long life oil - see note below.

Thanks

P.S. My friend who bought a mini and also has 15k km oil change intervals, the dealer gave him 1lt of Castrol SL04 (or sth similar) long life oil in case he needed to top up. The german Subaru manual mentions 5W-30 as the recommended oil but nothing specific/long life oil

hi,

had this same grey area with my new 06 wrx wagon. the subaru in uk is the only car marque that still operate the 1000 mile service.

the service manager didnt know what oil they came shipped with but i have been told that it is a thinner running in oil. this seems to be the crux of the matter....if a car comes with the running in oil then it certainly needs a 1000 mile change for the "proper" semi synth that they use in the uk spec. i have covered 1700 miles now and had the proper oil in for 700.

this is what you need to check.....if in germany they have dropped the running in oil (soon to happen in uk i think) and upon arrival during the pdi check they add the semi synth. that way you have an oil which is capable of lasting that mileage. even having said that i know people who regardless of this - change oil and filter off their own back around 3k on any new car.

good luck and safe driving.

Thanks s60r
I have asked the dealer what oil the car comes with in case i need to top up but I have had no reply yet.
I am going to change the oil, it's definetely not going to do any harm for sure since the engine has just covered 1k miles(1600 km). In all cars I have owned with regular oil changes I have never had problems. Better sooner rather than later....
