Default Should i fit the up pipe now ??

As above should i fit the up pipe now or wait till the summer , when Andy Forrest works his magic on it . The car is a 2001 Bugeyed WRX with a turbo back system removing the other two cats plus K&N panel fillter .

Thanks Craig.

fit the up pipe why not. but you need a fuel pump and engine management of some sort soon

Wait till you are going to have it mapped, without a map you may find that the ECU compensates and you actually loose power anyway after removing all the cats (you imply that the downpipe and centre cat have already been removed ?)

Dont forget you will need a CEL fix as you will be removing the up-pipe EGT sensor which will throw a CEL.

Also, wrap the up-pipe before fitting, it runs right alongside cyl 3 and without wrapping can contribute to higher temps in that area and higher under-bonnet temps in general.

Without question, replace your fuel pump before mapping. I wouldnt be surprised if Andy refused to put anything other than a mild map on with the standard WRX fuel pump as they struggle to supply a constant pressure when pushed - which as you can imagine is not good at all - esp for cyl 3 (the hot one, the one at the end of the fuel rail and the one furthest away from the oil feed - poor cyl 3 lol).

WRX only. - I don't think STi has up-pipe cat???. If the up-pipe has the CAT then I should imagine it will also have the EGT sensor. I don't know 100% but I cant see them changing it on newage to be honest. Decat up-pipe (and downpipe) is quite a 'big' mod as far as the ecu is concerned. Talking to the bloke who maps mine he said that the newage ecu is a cocky little bugger and has all sorts of compensation map parameters which it can fall back into if it thinks something isn't quite right. Which is why it is possible to actually loose power my modding and not mapping for it (I'd already had mine mapped so he wasn't just drumming up business lol).

He recently had someone fitting a cat back system and ending up with a massive flat spot at around 4k. Turned out 'Computer said no' don't like this new fangled exhaust and had dropped back to a compensation map.

Double check with techie mapping type guru's but I think I'm giving the right info here.

The car is booked in to get the up pipe fitted next thursday. Alyn at ASperformance has supplied it already heat wrapped which is handy !
Yes the downpipe and centre section have been replaced and the cel light is on. Does anyone know if the remap will solve this or will i still need the resisstor. Andy had told me i would need a Walbro and panel fillter aswell as the up pipe , so just the Walbro to go and i'm set.

Well there will be two causes for of a CEL after you fit the up-pipe.

The CEL you have now will be caused by decatting the downpipe and will most likely be CEL code P0420 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold. This is fixable in software by raising the threshold of the fault reading in the ECU when the remap is done. * Note * : This CEL is also fixable via a CEL fix which involves patching a resistor into the ECU loom, but if you are having it remapped then the mapper will sort this in the ECU for you.

The CEL you will get when removing the EGT sensor from the up-pipe will be P0546 = Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor Circuit Malfunction. This is NOT fixable through software mapping and requires a 2.2K ohm 0.6watt resistor which is placed in the EGT connector.

Have a read here
Uppipe FAQ: Read if you are thinking of buying one! - Newbies & FAQs - NASIOC

Don't make the mistake I did and order a CEL fix from H&S expecting it to be for the up-pipe fix - it's not, it's the downpipe CEL fix, which I will now be removing as my ECU has been mapped to sort this one. I've now just ordered some resistors from Maplin (there isn't a maplin shop near me unfortunately) and will update on whether it works to remove the EGT CEL when I get em in a cpl of days.

This seems to be the correct one, but as they are so cheap I ordered several 2K2's of 0.6, 2, 3 Watt rating - If it's not correct it will only pop the resistor and throw the CEL again, but I can't see the wattage being more than 0.6 peak on an EGT line.
Min Res 2k2

When you hear ppl talking about a CEL fix, just make sure you understand which CEL code it fixes as it got me well confused

Think I've sussed it now tho and will be a happy bunny if my CEL disapears
