Default Valve Clearance

Hi all, I have a MY97 Phase 1 Sport, with horrible ticky tappet(s).

I'm going to whip my spanners out this afternoon and check the cleareances as from what I understand the tappets should be adjustbale ones on this engine.

What I can't find ANYWHERE on the net however is what the actual clearances should be?

Can anyone help?

Cheers

James

James,
You should have the Outer Shim type setup on yours :-
Inlets - 0.007"
Exhausts - 0.009"

Make sure the engine is stone cold when checking

If your unlucky and have an earlier engine, you will have Hydraulic Lifters fitted and these need to be taken out and stripped, checked for wear, cleaned and re-assembled to cure the ticking noise.
