Default tickover help

can anybody tell me what this problem is on my 99 turbo classic, when the car is warm and i come to a stop the tickover is erratic going from almost stalling to where it used to tickover at, up and down and sometimes stalling when slowing to stop.

i have had a mechanic look at it and they cleaned the idle valve(i think thats what its called) which helped for a bit but didnt solve it and it has got quite bad again, they said i needed a certain part which i have forgotten what its called but they said it would be around £200.

can anyone shed any light on this problem?
cheers
