Default straight cut gearbox?

managed to blow my gearbox on the isle of man yesterday so having to go down the route of a new box (well presuming since can't get any gears except reverse) so possible options are.

rebuild to existing spec

rebuild with helical gearset

rebuild with straight cut gear set

straight cut being the strongest would be the prefered option for strength, but have been told its got a loud wine and a paint ot live with, anyone out there got one? how bad is it?

helical is much quieter but not as strong.

its to go in my00 uk turbo runnign the standard engine bar a decat and remap, but i'm planning to have a big engine build in the near future and aiming for close to 500bhp, so seems stupid to spend money on a gearbox only for it to be replaced again, hence doing it now.

whats peoples thoughts/experiances?

(prefer first hand knowledge rather than 'heard this and that' please folks)

You could get a 6MT, will handle 450 bhp all day long.

A guy on here, 'cookstar' has the straight cut box, and after me asking he kindly posted a little video of it on youtube.
YouTube - PPG whine
This will show you about the noise of the straightcut box!

My word.. Just listened to that video, don't think I could put up with that on a daily basis no matter how much power it handled!!

Bit marmite mate

I love it though, sounds great. And its nice to be confident in any style of driving you choose to adopt, its not gonna break

biggest concern they had was the wining, hence me asking.

cost wise seems to work out about the same for helical cut and straight cut which are the two options that i think im gonna choose from

at the min a standard replacement box would be strong enough, but as said its for future upgrades i'm thinking of

You missed out on the flywheel mod.
